Christopher P. McGuire, Esq.      [resume]

Christopher P. McGuire, Esq. was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1995. He is a graduate of St. John’s Law School, and Cortland College, where he received his B.A. degree in political science and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.

In 1987, Mr. McGuire spent a semester studying and teaching in Beijing, China, and became semi-fluent in Mandarin Chinese. In addition, he was a Junior Writer Editor for the U.S. Department of State, and assisted then Assistant Secretary of State Charles Redman during the Reagan/ Gorbachev summit.

Mr. McGuire worked as a Congressional Aide and Political Consultant to Congressman Thomas J. Downey from 1989 until 1992, and coordinated all of Mr. Downey’s Congressional and campaign events during that time. In addition, he assisted small businesses and addressed constituent concerns for Mr. Downey, and organized campaign activities and devised campaign strategies.

From 1996 through 2000, he served as Patchogue Village Prosecutor, where he prosecuted all Village Code Violations for the Incorporated Village of Patchogue. In addition, his work included training code enforcement officers on the preparation of accusatory instruments, motion practice, trials, and appellate work.

From 1995 until date, Mr. McGuire has been operating a general law practice in Central Islip, New York. Practice areas include accidents and personal injury claims, criminal and traffic matters, real estate transactions, landlord/tenant disputes, wills and estates, contract matters, and bankruptcy.

In 2002, Mr. McGuire was overwhelmingly elected by the voters of the Village of Patchogue to be the village Justice. He is currently serving his term, and hears criminal, traffic, housing and building matters, and other quality of life cases.

He resides in Patchogue with his wife Elisabeth and their son John.

Mary C. Pelaez, Esq.     [resume] Hablamos  Español

Mary C. Peláez, Esq. graduated from Albany Law School in 2003 with a concentration in Family and Elder Law and St. John’s University where she received her B.A. in Sociology and was on the Dean’s List.

Upon graduating Law School, Ms. Peláez served as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County for approximately three years. Her experience included and District Court, the Domestic Violence Unit and the Case Advisory Bureau where she prosecuted Misdemeanors and Felonies, conducted hearings, bench and jury trials and presented cases to the grand jury.

Ms. Peláez left the District Attorney’s Office to join the Law Office of Christopher P. McGuire in July of 2006, where she is currently handling criminal, family, matrimonial and immigration cases. 

In 2001, Ms. Peláez spent a summer abroad at McGill University in Montreal, Canada where she received a certificate in International Human Rights. She was also an associate editor for the Albany Law Review from 2001-2003. Her legal internships include the Minority Counsel’s Office for the New York State Assembly, Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Narcotics Division, and the Department of Social Services in Albany County.

Mary C. Peláez was born and raised in Queens, New York and currently resides in Suffolk County. Her family is originally from Colombia and she is fluent in Spanish.
